One of my foster cats and I just had a small, er, dispute. Ow.
weewarrior: (Default)
Not bad, but a bit too Manly Men Doing Manly Things for my taste. (The female characters don't seem to be too horrible, though.)
Between this (Timothy Olyphant), Lost (John Hawkes), Caprica (Paula Malcomson), FlashForward (Kim Dickens) and True Blood (William Sanderson) it's almost like I'm watching Deadwood again.

My cow cat* brought me a live mouse to play with! Unfortunately she escaped and is now somewhere in my room. Awesome.

*seriously.

When you see this, post a poem on your journal.

For all your questing beast needs:

JABBERWOCKY

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
  The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
  And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
  And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
  The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
  He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
  He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
  Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe.

weewarrior: (Are you thinking what I'm thinking?)
It's been a while since I posted, so I thought I'd give some sign of my continued existence... Real Life has been somewhat demanding over the last few weeks and I didn't have the energy to write regularly. I might do that again, but frankly, I don't know when. I'll try keeping up commenting, though.

Comment with the name of a female character & I'll tell you why I love her.

Since both my interests and my tags aren't entirely up to date, take a look at this list for sources I might be familiar with )

You know the most depressing thing? Fifteen years ago, I would have scored a whole lot better than this.

Your result for The Improved Book Character-Savvy Test...

Master/Mistress!

You scored 86% Best Seller, 81% Classic and 88% Fantasy/Sci-Fi!

You are my type of person. (Can you see the little hearts shooting from my eyes?) Absolutely smashing. Keep on reading!

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing, in any fandom I am familiar with*. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. (If you absolutely can't write, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to offer drawings or icons or something instead.)

Notes: I will write if you want me to write, but I'd suggest choosing a drawing, since I'm far better at that; and I won't do incest pairings (both biological and psychological).

*because my interest list is not exactly up to date: the fandoms I'm willing to do include Avatar: The Last Airbender, Fringe, Southland, Alias, V (new version of the 80s TV show, not the Alan Moore comic), Lost, Heroes Seasons 1 and 2, Flash Forward, Mad Men, Doctor Who (would prefer New Who, but for Old Who, Three and Seven are possible), The Sarah Jane Adventures, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Being Human, The Good Wife, Glee, New Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek - The Reboot, Star Trek DS9, The Middleman, X Files, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Carnivale, True Blood, Leverage, Chuck, Merlin, The Attolia Series, The Parasol Protectorate. If you think of anything else I might know, just hit me with it.

Well, that was ... interesting. I mean, I liked it. In a way.

Spoilers have lots of subtext )
weewarrior: (So?)
Really, really dumb clichéfest, with creepy underlying body image and human rightsspoiler ) issues and an awkward White Man's Burden plot. The CGI is truly breath-taking, but not really worth the rest.

As many of you may know one of my majors is English. To fulfil the requirements of a specific linguistics course, a fellow student and I have to conduct an empirical study on the use of language, and we need victims, er, I mean test persons! If you are female and your first language is English, and you wouldn't mind answering around 12 questions concerning every day situations*, please comment on this entry. If you know anyone who fits this description and would like to take part, give me a heads up, I'd be happy to pm you a questionnaire for them as well.

I'd greatly appreciate your help. It won't take long, either!

ETA: Thanks everyone who was willing to try it out. You should all have your questionnaires by now at the latest.

* An example would be the following: You enter a flowershop to buy some flowers for a friend. The shop assistant asks if she may help you. What do you answer?

Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."
I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity.
Update your journal with the answers to the questions.

Another meme taken from [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne!

1) Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/bands [fannish etc.] that you've had an obsessive fannish love or interest in at some time in your life.
2) Have your f-list guess your favourite character/member from each item.
3) When someone guesses correctly, strikethrough the item and put the name of your favorite character next to it.

Napped from [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne:

1. Pick 10 of your favorite books or series.
2. Post the first sentence of each book. (If one sentence seems too short, post two or three!)
3. Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books.

I followed [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne's example and used the first chapter instead of any prologues - at least in one case the latter would have been too confusing.

The event on which this fiction is founded has been supposed, by Dr. Darwin, and some of the physiological writers of Germany, as not of impossible occurrence. )

To be a bit more helpful: three of these are literary fiction, one is a classic, one is conceivably a bestseller, two are mysteries, three could be considered historical fiction, two are fantasy and one might be fantasy, one is horror and two are science fiction.
weewarrior: (No way!)

Really, I enjoy the show in a cheerful kiddie entertainment way, and I don't expect it to be at all historical, or even follow the more established stories all that much, but occasionally there are elements that make me a little twitchy such as the following: wherein spoilers for season two get theatrical )

Ahem. Now I feel better.

I'm not even halfway through and I'm already trying not to fall asleep. I think I might give this one up shortly.

To make this post amount to something, I'm going to play a guessing game regarding Janis' storyline: Spoilers are analysing your flashforwards )

Also, am I the only one who finds Joseph Fiennes' AA mentor somewhat grating? Everyone else is mostly bland, despite the occasional ACTING! by Fiennes and Cho, but he really rubs me the wrong way for some reason.
