Has Damian Lewis ever played Hamlet? Because I'm pretty sure I saw his face today on a school book edition of same.

NBC has officially renewed both Life and Chuck for a second season! (Well, and Heroes for a third, but I don't think this is surprising to anyone.)

...nothing on Friday Night Lights, unfortunately. Keep those fingers crossed.

Just a handful of links:

NBC has given Life - and Chuck - a full season pick-up. Well, as full as the season can be, given the strike, but still, yay!

Meanwhile [livejournal.com profile] vonniek has posted a lovely picspam of Life's main characters here. Including old acquaintances!

Completely unrelated, but still awesome: Victor Garber and Ron Rifkin, aka the original Spy Dads Jack Bristow and Arvin Sloane, picketting. I miss Alias so much.

Real Life recap: Kira, the surviving kitty, seems to do pretty well, all things considered. She seems perfectly healthy, so I'm guessing poor Tippin's demise was actually caused by some indigestible object and not by an infection, just like the vet said. She seems a bit displeased, though, either because she misses her playmate, or because it annoys her that she is constantly observed for possible symptoms.

As for myself, I have yet another cold, this time with a whole range of symptoms, including, for the first time ever, chills! Did you notice that these things you've only ever heard of but never encountered are always a bit of a letdown when you finally experience them? I really thought chills would be a lot more dramatic. Might just be my hyperactive imagination, though.

Either way, the Cold of Evil pretty much killed my week where any social activities where concerned, so naturally, I am, well, bored, especially since The Valiant Roommate also has a cold and is exceedingly grumpy about it - although he, to my knowledge, does not experience chills of any kind. I guess his naturally sunny with slight overclouding disposition simply suffers a little from being confined to the indoors.

Snippet about Life, the TV Show: In the first week of December, Life will run the first episode of a Two Parter after Heroes' fall finale, and the second episode on it's usual spot on Wednesdays. I think that's a good sign, although I have no idea what it means for Journeyman, which is usually on after Heroes.

Virtual Life: Ask me something about any characters or TV shows I like. Anything you ever wanted to ask me (or didn't, until now).

This is one of those shows that sneaks up on you, seemingly nothing special at first, just another procedural with a quirky lead character, one that you suspect will never really raise above any of its countless siblings. But then, suddenly, it turns out to be this character-driven, atmospheric little jewel that has great acting, good writing, brilliant music, a solid overarching mystery, standalone cases that are not excessively ripped from the headlines and an investigating duo that rivals early Mulder/Scully in chemistry, and before you really know it, you're hooked. Additional bonus - tons of Deadwood alumni keep creeping up, and "Calamity Jane" Robin Weigert has a regular spot as Crews and Reese's Lieutenant.

The story is simple: Cop Charlie Crews has been incarcerated for 12 years, for murders he didn't commit. His lawyer manages to prove his innocence and achieve compensation - a considerable amount of money and the department he used to work for hiring him back, this time as a detective. He doesn't just return for the fun of police work, obviously, he wants to find out who set him up, and there indeed may have been a rather sinister conspiracy, complete with faking evidence and hiding witnesses. This mystery unfolds slowly but steadily in the background, and illustrates both Charlie's character and his evolving relationships to the people around him, especially his housemate, financial advisor and fellow ex-convict Ted, his new partner Dani Reese and his old partner Bobby Stark.

It's extremely well done, and if you don't watch it yet, you should really try it out. I'm sure you won't regret it.

Very brief, random thoughts on the most recent episode, A Civil War )
