The thing is, it's never been a matter of want with Sylar. He actively worried about Ted's power and was distressed at the idea of having it -- but he nonetheless treated it like it was inevitable. He can't control the compulsion to steal powers, whether he likes the power or not.

That makes sense.

They could easily have put him with Monica instead, and perhaps use him as an agent in the murder of the Elders, but they put him with Maya. It has to be, in part, to showcase what exactly her ability is.

And that, too!

I fully approve! especially because it means I don't have to explain the Nightmare Villain theory anymore. :D

Now all they have to do is actually connect it to the Killing The Elders plot, which is where Nathan's hallucination comes in, if I may boldly guess.
