Most fannish people who've known me for longer than two minutes are aware that I don't really do shipping. Now don't get me wrong, I'm usually all for my favourite fictional people being in love, because it can be lots of fun if the chemistry's right and watching pretty people making out is always a plus, but it's not strictly obligatory, and if a character gets nothing but a romantic storyline I usually find it a bit... boring. Why then, you ask rightly, do I do this meme? Well, it doesn't say anywhere that you can't do it with actual SHIPS, right?
"One true foursome" ship:
(Two couples.)
From Doctor Who (new and old edition): The TARDIS/The Doctor and The Master/Valiant.Technically, the last one is cheating, since The Master, as a Timelord, also has a TARDIS, but given that I personally have never seen it, the battleship he designed as part of yet another nefarious plan has to stand in here.
"Canon" ship:
Talyn, from Farscape. He is, quite literally, a (living) ship with cannons, who resulted from some less than friendly breeding experiments of resident Farscape Space Fascists the Peacekeepers (but then he sort of ran away with the guy who initiated the experiment, after that one defected himself... long, complicated story).
"Not quite canon but should be" ship:
I admit this is a difficult category, but I like to fill it with Temeraire, of the Temeraire novels by Naomi Novik. He hails from the Age of Sails (or, let's say, a slightly fantastical alternate version of it), has a Captain, and a crew, and they have guns, if not cannons. Admittedly, he is also less a *ship* and more a dragon, but since in this version of the 19th century, dragons are used in war much like frigates and the like, I'm saying he counts.
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" ship:
Any Enterprise under Captain Wesley Crusher. (This will probably only make sense to Star Trek fans, but trust me, it would be horrifying.)
"You are one sick bastard" ship:
Doctor Who, again: The TARDIS, and what the Master did to her in the Season Three finale.
"I dabble a little" ship:
From Lost: The Kahana, mostly because I thought the freighter storyline would have been a whole lot more awesome if it hadn't been for the strike.
This way, I still love her for the effort they put into building up a genuine ghost ship atmosphere, even if it all sort of ended in a whimper (despite the actual ending being a bang).
"It's like a car crash" ship:
From LEXX, the Dark Zone: the LEXX. She is a planet destroyer who basically looks like a huge dragonfly, and she navigates through what is basically a trashy parody on Star Wars and other more or less seminal sci-fi media. Not something you really want to watch. Trust me.
"Tickles my fancy but not quite sold yet" ship:
From Firefly: Serenity, the main habitat of the human protagonists. I know, I should love her, and I probably will, but man, what an odd design.
"Makes no canon sense but why they hell not" ship:
I don't know what they are called, but the Vorlon ships on Babylon 5. The design is kind of nonsensical - squids in space? Really? - but totally awesome. I mean - squids in space!
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" ship:
Star Wars: Everyone adores it, but personally, I find the Death Star a little too mundane as an Evil Overlord vehicle. I don't know, it should have more... spikes.
"When all is said and done" ship:
Farscape again: Moya. Mother of Talyn (as I said, they are alive), habitat of the human protagonists, and quite a character herself. I have my problems with the show - it often is a little too wacky-sci-fi-y for my taste, and I really dislike John Crichton, which is pretty much killer, since he is the main character - but I love this ship, its concept and the way TPTB are using it.
"Guilty pleasure" ship:
DS9: The Defiant. It's blunt, it's ugly, but it has quite a lot of drive.
"I can't believe I read it and liked it" ship:
There was this one fanfic where the Doctor was actually driving Bessie instead of travelling in the TARDIS. *gets glassy-eyed* (Bessie, btw, is a yellow car which turns up in the Third Doctor's era. Don't ask, it's weird.)
Favourite older/younger ship:
BSG again: That would have to be Galactica/Pegasus of course. What a stormy May-December romance!
My first, "I could never abandon you" ship:
Why, the Enterprise of course. I may be too cynical to be an actual Trekkie, but it's quite an adorable little thing.
Favourite devotion ship:
Lost: I am saying the Elizabeth, even though I think Libby was totally lying when she said that it was her husband's ship and that he named it after her. But the way the actress sold that was awesome.
Favourite never-met ship:
TARDIS, meet Desmond Hume. Alternatively: TARDIS, meet Hiro Nakamura.
Favourite "Awwww!" ship:
I'm getting repetitive here, but the TARDIS! I love that thing!
Favourite perverted ship:
Star Wars: Boba Fett's vehicle, the "Slave One." Seriously, with that name...
Favourite dominance!battle ship:
BSG: the viper of one Samuel T. Anders, a young, hot-shot pilot with a secret and excessively angsty relationship background, against a Cylon Raider. Let's just say it's a *very* interesting stand off.
