Well, that was... less underwhelming than last season. Less Tinkerbell!Doctor is more, indeed.

Props to everyone who guessed that the regeneration would be resolved using the hand - I thought it was a bit of a cop out, but the fact that they developed it further to have Human!Doctor and Timelord!Donna went a long way to appease me about that.

Davros was less creepy this time around, but still kind of fun in a "I'm so batshit, I *really* want to end the universe" way. Congrats for making the Master look sane here, Davry.

The scenes with Martha in Germany were both faintly hilarious - subtle symbolism there with German speaking Daleks, Rusty - and completely bizarre. I mean, yes, it's sad for Uniquely Accented German Lady that she hasn't seen London since the Second World War, but, you know, Nuremberg is a pretty big city - it will have an airport. And flights to London are like, 50 Euros. Because Germany is actually pretty close to the UK, being also in Europe and all. That's not tragic, it's badly researched, Rusty, sweetheart.

But thank you for letting Rose and Martha greet each other civilly instead of sticking with that jealousy nonsense.

Tosh posthumously saving Ianto and Gwen was literally a deus ex machina, but still lovely.

And I guess Torchwood has two new members? Love Noel Clarke and Freema Agyeman, glad they still have jobs, will still not be watching. Also, Jack? Love you, too, but shut it about UNIT.

Speaking of UNIT, at some point I started shouting "DON'T SALUTE!" every time somebody raised their bloody hand to their forehead (except when Wilf did it, because I love Wilf. Man, I will miss Bernard Cribbins.). Because nothing helps against overwhelming military fanboy geekery like Pterry.

Loved the Doctor recognizing Gwen from The Unquiet Dead!

"I was pregnant, you remember? Had a baby boy!" - "Aww, brilliant, what'd you call him?" - "Doctor!" - "Really?!" - "No, you plum. He's called Tony!" Oh, Jackie, I missed you. I will miss you.

Rose getting her own human Doctor model to repair is beyond creepy, so I won't dwell on that (will shippers be happy? I kind of doubt it.).

Let's get to the end. Cybermen, huh? Eh. At least it's Victorian England, so it's bound to be steampunky, and of course there will be David Morrissey, so, yay for that.

Well, okay, that wasn't really the end, but can I just ignore the last five minutes? I can, right?

Right?

Damn.

Oh!! Haaaa. Nice.

Yeeeeah, that was strange.

Damn.

I KNOW. NO NO NO. WAAAAH. I mean...it's a legitimate ending for maximum angst, but...waaaaah.

I thought it was so awesome, and then it just became so very sad. But I wasn't underwhelmed. I was well and properly whelmed, this time. I loved how everything came together with the DoctorDonna and all that.

Hee. I'm glad you were whelmed.

I think I'm mostly dissatisfied because I didn't want Donna to have to start over a third time, you know? It's quite a downer. And I think it's about enough with the DoctorAngst, between the Master, the Year That Wasn't, Martha leaving, Astrid, Jenny, River Song and now Donna he really had enough trauma for a therapy bill as wide as the universe.

That said, it wasn't a bad finale. It certainly was far less cringeworthy than last year. There was silliness, but it was actually fun. (I'm thinking especially of the Dalek tossing they had going on after Doctor Donna first turned up.)

Gosh, I plan to :(
Re the trailer, I was torn between thinking 'oh cool, the Cybermen are back' and'Huh! you can't show me what I just watched and then hope to dazzle me with what are basically Daleks except walking and a bit more effete - I'm sulking'.

Also yay for Jackie - I haven't heard Plum as an insult since an episode of Spaced!
