Brief thoughts behind the cut.

- This was a very disjointed episode - maybe it was the rather random structure, which had the present and future storylines running side by side without many actual connections, but I found it somewhat difficult to make out a clear picture. It really seemed all setup, which seems a bit of a waste for a dystopia where everybody can fly and gets to wear ugly lipstick.

- FuturePeter holds up the tradition of older selves dying while giving their younger variant the grand tour. I can't say that I was all that bothered, actually. I'm perfectly content with Ali Larter's character being the only one who comes in duplicates.

- Also keeping up tradition is FutureNathan getting killed by one of his brothers. I suppose this was a bit of a blow for fans of Team Incest.
Seriously though, while I'm hardly incredibly attached to dear Peter or particularly worried about his characterization, I did find his killing of FutureNathan to be peculiar, to say the least. I mean, I get that it was supposed to be Sylar's power and that it happened accidentally, but couldn't the whole thing have been filmed a little more ... traumatic? Obviously, this is meant to be an important emotional stepping stone, so you would expect it to have a little more impact than "Whoops, I killed Nathan again! Butter fingers!" (And really, he died of the cut? What the heck? Shouldn't Peter as a nurse know how to make a useful incision?)

- Speaking of brain surgery and the reasons therefor, I'm not incredibly happy with the explanation of Sylar (and now by extension Peter) going crrrrazy because of Sylar's ability. Of course they did hint at the power genes causing mental instability before, but it really gives them too much of a carte blanche to excuse murderous or irratic behaviour via genetics.

- FutureGabriel calling his son Noah - Yeah, I'm not touching that one with a tent pole. Nice detail with the pomeranian, though. Does anyone know if that was Mr. Muggles' real life self Lestat posing as one of his character's descendants?

- My name is Doctor Mohinder Suresh and this is my shocking diary of self-experimentation. Have managed to shed all semblance of engaging storyline and/or character development and am now getting laid instead. As minor side-effect, have developed bizarre and completely unexpected hunger for violence and tasty manflesh, but Maya assures me that I am v. limber now. Seemed a little put off by skin irritation, though - attempt at fooling her with Hoodie of Broody Sexiness unfortunately not working, but have so far convinced her that just allergic against lizard namesake. Might have to hunt down Father's receipt for skin ointment - contained instructions on either licking toads or rubbing them on body if memory serves right. Am very eager to try out. ...

- Matt and Daphne didn't really make any sense at all, and the wig they gave Brea Grant wasn't exactly becoming (That was a wig, right?). Also, I don't want to trash talk infants, but Little Danielle was a bit huge, wasn't she? Especially in contrast to her Mommy, who is such a tiny thing.

- Hi, Molly! How awesome that people are still providing you with reasons for therapy even in dystopian futures! How come you aren't a supervillain yet?

- EvilClaire was kind of a irritating wimp, I must say. Knocked out by her uncle, practically sent to her room by her Daddy, and whining about her lot in life the rest of the time without doing much else? I wish either of your mothers or your grandmother had been around to slap you, dear.

- While we are at the topic of slapworthy people, I do find Hiro pretty irritating this season (not his storyline, though, fascinatingly enough), but I now feel that a lot of it is the writing. The moment in the cell where he admitted that the thought of Ando killing him in the future just wouldn't stop bothering him was the first time this conflict actually seemed halfway organic, and Hiro more than a petulant child.

- Angela, in turn, is back to being awesome again. Loved her chastising the Troublesome Duo like schoolboys. And, ohhh, Someone is watching and manipulating them all. Muahahaha! I wonder if that has something to do with...

- ...Nathan's storyline, which I gotta admit doesn't interest me the least. So far, Pasdar seems oddly lacklustre, and I don't know if that's a sign that the character really isn't himself since He Came Back Wrong, or if he has simply stopped caring. The infatuation with Niki and her clones is getting a bit strange, but at least Nathan could claim it's genetical.

- I gotta admit, I really liked that he made good use of the flying, though. And that he clued in that something was definitely wrong with Tracy. Which, okay, is probably more empathy than the character usually possesses, but hey - shiny flying!

- Tracy: I like her storyline, although I wish they would stop using German Characters with Exaggerated, Yet Oddly Bland Accents. And it's nice to see that we've now graduated from LowRentMagneto to Dr. Mengele Lite. No stereotypes at all, here.

- Which brings me to Matt's present day dilemma, and thus the still not officially named Utsu: just because you hang a lampshade on it by making Matt saying culturally ignorant things and having Utsu lecture him on Jung, he isn't less of a clichéd black helper character. I love that he's a trickster, fine, but given that Micah seems to be out and Monica apparently completely MIA, you're really not doing well on the black characters with their own storyline level.

- That said: a turtle as Matt's spirit guide? Seems to be about right.

- And finally, on the definite plus side: the return of Adam! Who knows, maybe he will slap Hiro for me.

Yes, but Evil German Doctor told Tracy that they divided up the triplets after their parents died and gave them to foster parents, to study individually, so my guess was Jessica was the actual daughter of Hal Sanders. The founders locked Adam up around that point, so he could be the father of the triplets, and it's even easier if he's the grandfather.

Really, I'm mostly working on the "Everyone's Related" model, here.

One reason I don't think Jessica is Barbra is that I think they are playing us: the villainous triplet from Angela's dream and maybe even the First Lady of the Sunglasses with FutureNathan possibly isn't Tracy at all, but Barbra.
