Napped from
the_grynne:
1. Pick 10 of your favorite books or series.
2. Post the first sentence of each book. (If one sentence seems too short, post two or three!)
3. Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books.

1. He- for there could be no doubt of his sex, though the fashion of the time did something to disguise it - was in the act of slicing at the head of a Moor which swung from the rafters.
2. It was a beautiful morning at the end of November. During the night it had snowed, but only a little, and the earth was covered with a cool blanket no more than three fingers high. In the darkness, immediately after lauds, we heard Mass in a village in the valley.
3. Some years ago there was in the city of York a society of magicians.
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, guessed by

4. I woke up sweaty and shaking. Tense. I had been dreaming about ghost roads again.
5. There were five of us - Carruthers, and the new recruit and myself, and Mr. Spivens and the verger.
6. Even the woods are burning. I plunge past the torched byre and hard into the shoulder-deep growth of brambles between the trees, but there is fire ahead of me as well as behind.
7. The big groundscar jerked to a stop centimeters from the vehicle ahead of it, and Armsman Pym, driving, swore under his breath.
8. The fog lay close over San Francisco the morning the homeless gathered in the park to cremate Theophilus.
9. The Book was thick and black and covered with dust.
10. Once there was a village on a river in a southern country.
To be a bit more helpful: three of these are literary fiction, one is a classic, one is conceivably a bestseller, two are mysteries, three could be considered historical fiction, two are fantasy and one might be fantasy, one is horror and two are science fiction.
